The Strong Families Tax Credit Program was established in 2021 to support eligible charitable organizations that provide services focused on child welfare and
well-being. Under the program, taxpayers can make private monetary contributions to a designated charitable organization and receive a dollar-for-dollar credit against the following Florida taxes:

Our mission is to host children and support families who have nowhere to turn when facing unmanageable circumstances. SFFC is motivated by faith to keep children safe and families together by providing a network of support while parents get back on their feet. The goal is to prevent children from unnecessarily entering the foster care system.
Our first conversation with Mr. Hunt was heartbreaking. He wept as he explained his situation. He was jobless, homeless, and alone while trying to raise his two children on his own. His mother, who had been helping, had recently passed. His life circumstances landed him in a place that was not good for himself or for his children. Mr. Hunt was desperate. He had no idea what to do next, however he knew that he wanted and needed to be a better father to his children. Thankfully, Mr. Hunt called Safe Families for Children.
Safe Families for Children immediately surrounded Mr. Hunt and his children with a Circle of Support. The encouragement he received motivated him to find employment, buy a car, and rent a place to live. The relationships he developed with our volunteers were life changing. He had a Family Coach that encouraged him and helped him navigate through things like getting before and aftercare in place for his children at school and how to juggle evening supper and homework. He had Family Friends with whom he attended church with and included him in men’s warrior events. Mr. Hunt even decided to give his life to Christ and got baptized. Another Family Friend opened their home on Sundays for him to do his laundry, and other Family Friends helped provide day hostings when school was out, and he had to work. One of his Host Families even opened their home to him while they were out of town for a week while he transitioned during a move. With financial support from Resource Friends along with a partner church, he was able to purchase a mobile home. His family is on a completely different path.
Mr. Hunt recently shared with our Safe Families Tampa team, “Safe Families for Children gave me hope. I didn’t know what I was going to do. Now my life looks completely different. This is the first time I’ve ever had anyone care about me and act like I was a real person. It feels so good to have someone to call to check on me or someone to tell me that I’m doing a good job. I wouldn’t know how to be a dad or even have my kids with me if it wasn’t for Safe Families.”

Giving money to prevention and intervention models also saves taxpayers money. Keep your tax dollars local to support children and families and keep them out of foster care. Tax Credits given to the SFFC chapters stay in the area to serve families directly. Applications open at 9am the first business day of January. Credit allocations are FIRST COME, FIRST SERVE. For FY25-26 the total tax credit pool is $40 million and remains open until all monies are allocated, or October 2026, whichever comes first.

WHY SAFE FAMILIES?
SUPPORT
Our mission is to host vulnerable children and create extended family-like supports for isolated families through a community of devoted volunteers who are motivated by compassion to keep children safe and families intact. Many parents struggle because of limited social support and unavailable extended family. We want to become the extended family and support system.
PREVENTION
We provide an overwhelmed and resource-limited parent with a safe, temporary place for their child without threat of losing custody. By offering support, the goal is to avert potential abuse/neglect episodes. We provide a safe alternative to child welfare custody, significantly reducing the number of children entering foster care.
COMMUNITY
We work with volunteers to provide relational, tangible and hosting/child care support to families. This can effect many areas of concern for families and employees but isn't limited to being where traditional social services exist. Making us an ideal partner in rural and urban communities. We work with the community to compliment existing services and engage an often untapped resource- area churches.
PROVEN METHOD
Researchers from University of North Carolina conducted an evaluation within the founding Chapter of Safe Families' in the Greater Chicago area. SFFC was shown to be a safe and effective intervention for deflecting families from foster care, with findings that 78% of families that received SFFC hosting were deflected from protective custody, compared to 47% of families receiving services as usual.

Companies fill out an application for allocation, basically a statement of intent, on the Florida Department of Revenue website. Once the application is approved the company can use the approved allocation to send the dollar-for-dollar tax liability to SFFC instead, satisfying their tax obligation. We'll send you the receipt to include with your tax bill. You've donated to a good cause, without changing your company's budget!
